The student will conduct research supervised by a Chemistry Department faculty member. With prior approval by the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Work Committee, research under Chem 495 with a faculty member outside the Chemistry Department may be allowed. At the end of the semester, the supervisor will chair a faculty committee to evaluate an oral public presentation, and a letter grade will be assigned. A concise written report may also be requested by the supervisor or committee in addition to the oral examination. Before registration can be allowed, the plan for completion of Chem 495, the committee members, and completion requirements must be approved by the supervisor and the Chemistry Department Undergraduate Work Committee, using the application form available at http://www.chemistry.wustl.edu/requirements. This course may provide a Capstone Experience but does not fulfill the Writing Intensive requirement. The units earned may be applied as elective advanced credits towards a Chemistry major with Latin honors eligibility. Course may be taken only once for credit. Prerequisite: Chem 490 and/or other advanced electives or research experience as specified by the supervisor.
