Financial Support Information

Financial support for graduate study is provided through teaching assistantships, research assistantships, University fellowships, and minority fellowships. Three semesters of experience as a teaching assistant are required of candidates for the Ph.D.

Graduate students in good academic standing receive tuition scholarships from the Graduate School and thereby accumulate all units required for an advanced degree without payment of tuition. The typical graduate student tuition remission scholarship provides nine units per semester, and allows for completion of the 72 units required for the Ph.D. in eight semesters. Graduate research continues twelve months of the year; students remain on campus to do research during the summer months.

More information on financial aid may be obtained from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
