Primary faculty members have a primary appointment in the Chemistry Department. These professors support the teaching and research missions of the University. They instruct undergraduate and graduate classes in general chemistry and/or their specialized fields of chemistry. Furthermore, these professors mentor graduate students and guide them in their dissertation research. Through securing grant money, they are able to support their independent research programs and produce scholarly publications, including journal articles, books, and reviews. Primary faculty members travel the country to lecture on their research results and attend scholarly conferences learning about recent advances in chemistry. Professors add to and spread the store of scientific knowledge as their life’s work.
